Okay so...predicament:
I just took a math midterm for 20E yesterday that went really, really badly. As in, I probably would've gotten the same score if I drew pretty pictures for every answer. We have two midterms in that class, and one final. The first midterm, I got the average score.
Do I withdraw now, or struggle and attempt a low B?
Arrrgh. |

if you can definitely get a low B or at least a C-, that would probably be better than a W. a W is kind of equivalent to a D/F except that it doesn't factor into your gpa. but since it's for your major you'd have to retake it again if you dropped now...? it's okay to have 1 or 2 W's though, it probably wouldn't even be an issue unless you apply to professional schools or you have to send transcripts to employers for whatever reason. but even then a few W's probably wouldn't be killer as long as it's explainable? i dunno.
last day to drop is next friday though (5/30), not 10th week. so i guess if you want to drop, you'd have to drop before then or else you'll have to go through the final |

| first off, I really hate math classes because of the way they are structured. have you talked to any of your classmates to see how they felt about the test? it might turn out that you all failed it and drew nice pictures as answers...so the curve will save you all. I've gotten a D on a math test which turned in to an A- so you might be okay. You might want to talk to you professor to see how everyone did. |

Both Jenna and Michelle have really good advice, and if you go talk to a counselor at your college/major, they will probably give you the same advice: talk to your professor, classmates, etc. and getting 1 W is really ok, as long as it doesn't become a pattern.*
I would suggest, if you have enough time, waiting until you find out your actual grade on the test and then make your decision.
Talk to as many people as you can, including maybe even parents, to help you along the way, and don't worry. It's just college anyways.
*As an aside, there's no real way to weight a W vs. a letter grade, because each case is different, but even if you do get a low grade/W this quarter, as long as you show progressively better grades each quarter, you'll be fine |
